From the first moments of his election, I was touched by the "perfume of the Gospel" that emanates from Francis. This Pope speaks to the heart and touches many people—believers and non-believers alike—because he lives what he says and bears witness to the essential values of Jesus' message: love, simplicity, humility, detachment, joy. Above all, he intends to promote a new state of mind so that the Church may rediscover its primary reason for being: to bear witness, following Christ, that God is not a judge, but a liberator, that love that restores is more important than the law that condemns, that the Gospel is a message of life that humanizes. This is also why he is concerned about the common good of humanity and brings a powerful and enlightening message to bear on major global issues: the financialization of the economy, social injustices, and the environmental crisis.
