What is the difference between pleasure, happiness, and joy? Where does happiness come from? Is it more dependent on our genes or external events than on our inner world and our choices? How can we be happier? Doesn't the modern injunction of happiness make happiness impossible? What is the link between happiness, spirituality, and religion? In this lecture, philosopher and sociologist Frédéric Lenoir will attempt to answer these questions, drawing on recent scientific studies and the reflections of great thinkers such as Epicurus, Epictetus, Buddha, Chuang Tzu, Montaigne, Spinoza, and Nietzsche.
